The Work Life
Fifteen minutes later the same young lady was found walking the opposite direction on that same street, her eyes brimming with tears that would only stay in check long enough for the girl to find comfort in the sweet smell of home and the comfy leather chair in the living room.
That young lady had just asked for employment for the first time, and the nervousness of the whole ordeal upset her considerably. She wasn't very thrilled by the knowledge that she would have to go back the next day to turn in her resume. And endure what she thought would be a terrible ordeal of filling out a job application while someone watched over your shoulder and made you as nervous as you could possibly be.
Three weeks ago, I applied for my first job, the place of employment? Our local tea room. I turned in my resume the day after talking to the manager and finding out if there were any work opportunities available, and two days later I had myself hired. There was no formal paper work as I had expected, she simply took my food handlers license and set me to work.
I happened upon a dream job not ten minutes walking from my home. I work rather sporadic hours which can be frustrating, but on the whole I couldn't have asked for a better first job than to work in a tea room. I spend my time at work whipping up clotted cream, washing dishes, cooking lemon curd, fixing sandwhiches assembling tea trays, making chocolate dipped strawberries, and an assortment of other odd jobs. I really couldn't ask for anything more, and to top off my prize job, I get a ten minute break every two hours during which time I get to read. As far as I'm concerned, I couldn't have gotten into a better position. I am getting paid for doing some of my favorite things, and I'm getting to know not only my co-workers and employers, but the empoloyees from the restraunt next door to us who's dishwasher we borrow. It's interesting to observe all the different sorts of people who come through our doors, and get to know the people I work around. I'm not particularly a people person but I love to stand in the background and watch how people interact and see all the different personalities come into contact with eachother and work together.
Life is very good indeed.
